Readers Cup

Dragon Dawn by Carole Wilkinson

To promote reading in our school we offer a number of activities to support and foster our students’ love of reading.

Our first activity for 2013 is the READERS CUP.  This is a reading quiz where the children are required to form teams of 3 or 4 and to work together to read a variety of narrative texts.

On competition day, the teams come together to compete for the READERS CUP.  The children are asked a number of questions and the team with the most points will be awarded with the Readers Cup for 2013.

This competition is opened to students in years 6 and 7.  The purpose is to select a team to represent our school in the regional final which is held in term 2.

This year, the winning team along with the 2 runner up teams will be given the opportunity to represent the school.

Preparations are well and truly under way with entrants busily reading the following set titles.

  • Dragon Dawn by Carole Wilkinson (Novel)
  • Snookle by Paul Jennings (Short Story)
  • The Big Little Book of Happy Sadness  by Colin Thompson (Picture Book)

We’ve had a great response with 5 teams of year 6 & 7 students registered to take part.  If your child has registered they will receive an information flyer with further details in the coming weeks.

Any queries regarding this competition please come and see us in the Library.

Happy Reading

Deborah and Jodi.
