Samford External Enrichment Program (SEEP)

SEEP is a program run by parent volunteers who engage external tutors to come and share their knowledge with the students of the school. It is an extension into programs that the school curriculum does not have time to explore. The Program was developed in 1996 and is still going strong today. For a very small fee - noting the program is a not for profit venture - you can try your hand at an art class, fitness class, music class or even a spot of chess! All classes are held on school grounds. We have some fantastic courses this term, so come along and have a go. There’s something for everyone on offer.

Please pay attention to the days and dates that classes begin and end.  All classes start at 3.10pm and finish at 4.10pm (Film Club finishes at 4.40pm).

Courses start in Week 3 Term 3. Register online at:  https://www.flexischools.com.au/

Registrations close on 3 August (Guitar on 27 July). Book early to secure your spot!

Art with Helen - Element of Line

Exploring elements of art: LINE with charcoal, graphite, ink and pencil.

The elements of art are the building blocks of visual expression. Each one is really important for the understanding of drawing and painting. This class will explore the element of line. Each week we will be working in a range of media and approaches. We will be using charcoal, ink, pen, pencil, graphite, resist and more to make some great art with new techniques. By the end of 6 weeks students will be introduced to this art element and understand its importance in creative expression.

Art with Helen – Joan Miro

Exploring the wonderful world of JOAN MIRO through drawing, sculpture and pen (2D and 3D).
We will be exploring the work of Joan Miro. Miro was a Spanish artist whose work is famous the world over. We will be working in 3D to make our own sculpture influenced by Miro. Then we will be looking at his quirky and magical imagery to make a 2D canvas influenced by him. We will be using pen, pencil, paint and sculpture during this project. There will be drawing and construction processes.

Film Club - Animation
Film making club focuses on getting young minds excited about making videos by giving them the technical skills to get started. Participants learn to manipulate awesome visual effects with tools like a green screen, and work with professional filmmakers to make top-notch videos with household devices. This term we will be focusing on animation. We will be developing new skills while building on the skills that we have learned already. Families will be invited to a final screening event where student teams showcase their team made videos! All equipment is provided (check out this video).
Note that classes run till 4:40 pm.

French Club
French is back and again, no previous French is required! This class is for children who want to learn French with a native French tutor in a fun and creative environment. The focus is to teach French using a variety of activities: videos, books reading, games, role playing and singing. Classes are split into Juniors (Wednesday) and Seniors (Thursday).

Dancing
Throughout this program children will be able to explore their creative side with many genres such as Hip Hop, contemporary, jazz and ballet while also developing gross motor skills and coordination, as well as the ability to express themselves and work with others. The children will be able to choose which genre they would like to continue in the following term.

Yoga
These fun, supportive & interactive classes are designed specifically for children. The children will be building strength whilst maintaining flexibility; enhance their self-esteem through developing confidence whilst learning a valuable life skill through an enjoyable and fun approach. And all of this with a highly qualified and skilled teacher. Yoga provides children with inner resources that help them feel connected creating happier, healthier kids.
Note that classes are not held on EKKA holiday, 13 August.

Grasshopper Soccer
Grasshopper Soccer programs are designed for children aged 5-12 years. Each program provides a building block upon which children can improve their game and develop their character. We are focusing on promoting soccer skills and healthy lifestyles through a comprehensive and non-competitive program that sees our participants grow socially, physically and mentally. More than just a game, the children learn how to interact in a stress-free environment, how to share, take turns, listen to instructions, and work as a team. Our objective is to focus on delivery and education, strengthening our position as motivators and coaches. Students are grouped into junior and senior years teams of 12 players and each team has its own coach. Soccer training takes place at the school oval.
Note that classes are not held on EKKA holiday, 13 August.

Chess
Chess is a game of understanding and not of memory. Students will be instructed in the rules and principles of playing chess with both personal tuition and friendly games each week. Chess can improve a student's concentration and ability to remain focussed for longer periods.

Guitar
Guitar classes teach basic guitar skills of strumming chords, playing melodies, and reading simple music. We are learning to make music together in a small group, learning about the different musical roles: rhythm guitar, lead guitar and bass guitar. Students will need to bring their own guitar. Our guitar classes are currently full however you can register on our waiting list if your child is interested. Please register once per child.
