German
Students at Samford begin learning German in Year 4. The focus is not only the language but understanding culture. Children in Years 4-6 are exposed to a variety of activities to enhance their learning of the German language. To further extend students learning of the language, children can attend ‘German Club’ This activity is held weekly. This is a great way for children to interact across year levels, make new friends and to learn from their peers. It is also a wonderful way to enhance cultural understanding of the German language through games, craft, story telling, music and multi media.
The learning of German is also promoted with such activities like the ‘Languages of Excellence Day’ which is held at Ferny Grove High School, Oktoberfest, food tasting experiences, making ‘Schultüten’, participation in the Goethe Film Festival and more.
