Ensuring our
students participate in quality and meaningful learning experiences with
digital technologies is a key priority for Samford State School. We believe
that it is important for our students to develop the essential thinking and
technological skills to prepare them for their
future.
All students from
Prep to Year 6 engage in learning with the Digital Technologies curriculum.
This curriculum in centred around creating digital solutions to real and
life-like problems. This takes place through teaching students computational, systems and design thinking skills, while working to
develop students’ abilities to effectively communicate and collaborate with
others.
We teach this
curriculum through a range of digital mediums, including devices (iPads,
laptops), coding and robotics.
Furthermore, we
are committed to continually developing students’ general information and
communication technologies (ICT) capabilities and skills, by embedding ICTs
into a range of learning areas across the school and allowing students to use,
and learn with different technologies in a variety of contexts.
Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) Program
Commencing
in 2019 (in Year 4), Samford State School implemented the BYOD program, where
parents and school worked together to supply everyone with their own device
across the chosen year level.
One-to-one
access creates greater learning opportunities and helps reduce and remove
barriers to learning. Learning is enhanced and transformed in ways not possible
beforehand.
The program
commences with the Year 4 cohort and continues for three years, until the
students leave the school in Year 6 (or beforehand).
