After school activities (ASA)
We are very fortunate at Samford State School to be able to offer our students a large variety of after school activities.
We engage external parties to provide tuition in a variety of fields. Courses run on a term by term basis on school grounds from 3.15pm for approximately one hour per week.
Registration and detailed course information can be obtained directly from the tutor.
Easter Textiles (Helen Evans)
We
will be learning simple embroidery stitches to make Easter themed textile
art. Embroidery is perfect for fine motor skills, concentration and perception.
If your child is a previous student I will be showing them new stitches to extend
their knowledge. As a bonus, embroidery is a rediscovered skill in the
mindfulness movement, the ultimate slow art. Last bookings by the day prior to course commencing.
Easter Paper Mache (Helen Evans)
Easter themed paper mache, we'll be making some fun art using recycled materials. The results are always amazing. Paper mache may be simple but is great for developing fine motor skills and 3D modelling techniques.
Grasshopper Soccer (Mauricio Marino)
Grasshopper Soccer program is a great complement to club soccer or a good alternative for those parents who want their kids to focus on developing skills without exposing them to competition. Children are divided into 3 groups according to age and skill level: Intro to Micro (5-6 yo), Micro (6-8 yo) and Micro Plus (8-12 yo). Participants will learn new ball skills every week with 3 fun and challenging games which will then culminate in a 'Big Game' of 3v3, 4v4 or 5v5. Kids from Micro Plus will be playing more challenging games that will teach them more about team play and positioning on the field, while still keeping the fun in the game.
Chess (Neil Lossberg)
Sorry, no chess in Term 1.
Yoga (Vicki Murtagh)
Riding the Elements - Children's Yoga, requested by the kids themselves, they love this course. This term at yoga the children will use the life skill of yoga, meditation, breathing and cooperation to discover how the elements are building blocks of Creation. Through hands-on experience and yoga exploration the children will discover the different elements and how to use them within their life.
This topic introduces children to the ability to see beyond the obvious, whilst developing a deeper understanding of oneself. The sessions are fun, interactive, challenging, inspiring and captivating. Developing the ability to inquire about life and to have a safe environment where to express their questions and ideas is crucial for children's development.
Yoga is a wonderful art that allows children to develop their capabilities without competition or comparison. Having worked with children for over two decades and having specifically taught children's yoga now for one decade there is a wide range of expertise that ensures the children are enjoying and benefiting from this extra-curricular activity.
Guitar (Rob Reeves)
The after school guitar program will resume in term 3. Students learn how to read music, play together, and strum some simple chords. All material are provided, but each student must have their own guitar. A guitar tuner is also very helpful. Tutor Rob Reeves is a professional musician and guitar teacher.
Tuesday classes will commence on Tues 28 July (Week 3) and finish on Tues 8 Sept (Week 9). Because of the student free day scheduled for Friday 4 Sept, Friday lessons will begin in Week 2, on Friday 24 July. They will end in Week 9 on Fri 11 Sept. There will be no lesson on Friday 4 Sept due to the pupil free day. Lessons run from 3:10 to 4:10 in the music room. Students who haven't been meeting by Zoom this term will need to re-enrol.
