Our architectural designed Library Resource Centre was officially opened in July 2011.  The original library is now used as a teacher resource centre and continues to play an important role within the school. The new library is integral to the education needs of the students and certainly meets the challenge head on. It provides students with an inviting environment, but importantly also caters to the needs of staff, parents and the community.

The expansive, air-conditioned, open planned layout provides adequate room for directed teaching activities. The library is well appointed with comfortable lounges, modern furnishings and state of the art technology.

Facilities

The library is equipped with a school network Wi-Fi, an array of Smart Board’s, Data Projectors and Computer Banks.

A purpose built Seminar Room is available for use by the school community and provides an after hour space to conduct meetings and out of hours school based activities.

A dedicated computer based mini lab is an integral part of the teaching and learning experience for small groups. Specialized instruction is undertaken in the modern lab.

The library maintains a well-stocked, current selection of resources for student and teaching purposes. We have a large fiction and non-fiction collection which is well utilised. This is complemented by an extensive assortment of teaching resources. We are well equipped to meet the requirements of the new curriculum.

Opening Hours

The library is opened from 8.30am to 3.15pm to staff, students and parents.  Students can utilise the library during morning tea and lunch breaks to borrow, access computers or simply enjoy the many leisure activities on offer.  All classes have regular borrowing times.

The current borrowing allowances are:

• Prep:  one book for two weeks

• Year 1 – 5: two books for two weeks

• Year 6: four books for two weeks

Although the borrowing period is for two weeks, our students are most welcome to return and borrow as many times as they wish during the week.

Loans can be extended if required.  Students can borrow additional resources if required for school based projects.

Annual Events

Book Fair

Samford State School hosts two Book Fairs each year held in Term 2 and Term 4.   This event is a fund raiser for the library, where a percentage of the sales is given to the school as commission to purchase current and popular resources.

Book Week

This is a children’s literature event held in late August.  During the week the students participate in range of activities celebrating Australian children’s authors and books.
